The Canadian government plans to give thousands of undocumented workers who have lived and worked in Canada illegally for many years Canadian citizenship

Granting Canadian citizenship to construction workers

Canadian Immigration Minister Mark Miller indicated that there are a number of specific categories that will have priority in obtaining citizenship, namely construction workers.

Settlement of illegal workers in Canada

The Canadian Minister of Immigration explained during a press interview that he is preparing to create a broad and comprehensive program that will allow many who do not have valid documents to apply for permanent residency in Canada.

They are workers who entered Canada illegally as temporary workers or foreign students and remained in Canada after their visa expired.

Miller revealed that he plans to submit a proposal to the Cabinet very soon to allow illegal immigrants to regularize their status, noting at the same time that this policy may face opposition.

Adding that the government must hold many talks on this issue, given that it is a project that does not enjoy consensus in the country.

More than 600,000 people reside in Canada illegally

Miller added that there are currently up to about 600,000 people residing in Canada without valid legal documents, and many of the accused also work for decades and have families and individuals.

These residents face the risk of deportation from Canada because they do not have proper and official documents, and the government is seeking to legalize their status during the coming period.

Establishing a program for workers who are not legally registered in Canada

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has been considering creating a program for undocumented and undocumented workers since shortly after the recent Canadian election.

In the mandate letter sent to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the Immigration Department requested to continue exploring ways to regulate the status of undocumented workers who contribute to Canadian communities.

Miller added that not all undocumented people and workers in Canada will be allowed to apply for permanent residency, including people who recently arrived in Canada.
